10-second breakdown:
TweetDeck is a platform that allows you to manage multiple Twitter accounts and create a custom Twitter experience by organizing and building collections, keeping track of lists, searches, activity and more. Recommended for companies looking to improve their Twitter engagement, following, and reach.
TweetDeck is used in small (0-50 employees), medium (51-1,000 employees) and enterprise companies (1,000+ employees).
The good:
The timelines are streaming in real-time which makes it all so present and engaging. The fact that you can have all your Twitter accounts in the same place and you’re able to stay on top of everything is great.
The search functionality is flawless.
You can add as many columns as you like, there are no restrictions (as opposed to other social media tools).
The bad:
It does only cover Twitter right now, although it did include Facebook in the past. If you need to manage other social networks you’d have to use a second social media tool, which could be a hindrance in your work.
I would have liked an in-app analytics and reporting feature.
How it works:
First of all, it works really fast. The loading speed is impressive and the tool rarely lags. You never have to hit refresh again because timelines stream in real-time.
Signup is incredibly easy, just log in with your Twitter account and start using the app.
Welcome to your dashboard. These are the default columns created when you first create an account. You can add more accounts by going to the accounts section from your left-side menu bar.
Monitoring several Twitter accounts have never been easier. What’s more, you can manage a live-tweeting campaign for promo event or a product launch. Twitter has some useful best practices listed here, to help you get the most out of live-tweeting.
To get an overview of one particular profile, click on it and it will display key information such as mentions, lists, collections, feed and favorites.
The lists feature is really useful. With TweetDeck, everything is in one place and you can easily jump from hashtag monitoring to list activity. You have all your Twitter actions one click-away, looking the same.
Collections is a relatively new feature available on TweetDeck. It allows you create your own timeline of tweets. You can group and organize them around specific topics, interests, events and conversations, and they are delivered in real time. Every collection is public and has its own page on twitter.com, making it easy to share, follow and embed. You can choose which tweets to feature either manually through TweetDeck or programmatically by API.
The confirmation feature can be a life saver. It enables you to check for typos or make sure you haven’t tweeted from the wrong account.
TweetDeck allows you to schedule tweets in advance. If you manage multiple accounts, you can schedule tweets for each of them.
If you’re using the software for an enterprise, it’s probably useful for you to know that all scheduled tweets for accounts connected to your TweetDeck are visible to anyone with access. You can add a scheduled tweets column to keep track of what you have in the queue.
The search function is really advanced. After you run a search, you can customize your results even further, using filters like “showing”, “matching”, “excluding”, “written in”, and “retweets”. You will see these options appear in a drop-down menu after you have ran a search. TweetDeck will save your search history, but you can easily clear it if you want to.
A very interesting filter is the sentiment filter, which enables you to search for a topic followed by a happy or sad emoticon. For example, you can create a search column with the keyword “education :)” to see tweets regarding education in a positive manner. Here are some other useful filters: filter:images, filter:verified, filter:news, filter:replies, filter:hashtag and filter:links.
You can also embed tweets. TweetDeck makes it easy to create an embedded tweet directly from the app. Just hover over the tweet that you want to embed, click on the ellipses (the icon with the three dots) and select embed this tweet.
The app also has a global filter feature., which allows you to filter tweets across the entire application by text, author, and source. To access and edit the global filters, go to settings- global filter- add filter.
Social media gurus can experience an even faster app, using keyboard shortcuts such as:
- A: Add a column
- S: Search
- N: New Tweet
- CTRL/CMD+return: Send new Tweet
- ESC: Close pop-up/cancel search
- ?: Show keyboard shortcut list
The team feature on TweetDeck allows multiple people to use a single account without having to share the password. Team members log in to TweetDeck with their own Twitter account and can use the team account by visiting their Accounts tab. To ensure that the account is secure, you can enable login verification. You have different access levels, as owner, admin and contributor.
Oh, and there’s a Chrome extension available called TweetDeck launcher.
TweetDeck is a highly specialized social media tool. It’s perfect for Twitter specialists. The software is completely free and very well integrated with Twitter. If you’re a devoted micro-blogging marketer, you’ll surely enjoy it.
