ADT Alert System is a reliable name for home and medical protection

10-second breakdown:

ADT is globally recognized for their home security systems and coverage. It’s the same name and dependable coverage you’ll get in the medical alert space. Their large number of resources creates a number of solid options for your protection.

The good:

There are multiple options and coverage levels to make a uniquely useful setup for you or your loved one. There are mobile options, a variety of gear, and automatic fall detection. You can load up, or just get what you need.

You can easily integrate ADT’s well-known home security services. Fire, carbon monoxide, and burglary service are available in addition to all of the medical options.

No contracts or cancellation fees

The bad:

Less experience in this industry. This company was founded on security, making the medical alert an extended part of their business.

One of the lowest ranges available in the industry at 300 feet.

How it works:

ADT’s website is very sales-focused, to the point that it might be a little distracting. Depending on the browser you use the ‘Buy Now!’ banner might even cover up some of the other buttons on the page. The front page of the website does have most of the information you might be looking for including all of the products, pricing and some key details about their company.

There is a really neat feature on the website that you can set up an appointment for ADT Health Alert to give you a call. No need to give them a call and wait for an operator, let them come to you instead!

The first of ADT’s products is their ‘Medical Alert Basic.’ It includes everything you would expect from a medical alert offering – your choice of waterproof pendant or wrist help button and a base unit. The base unit requires a landline phone connection to operate but only has a range of up to 300 feet. That’s well below the industry average but it should still cover small homes. One interesting feature of the Medical Alert Basic is heat detection. Although it doesn’t have a temperature reading on the device, the base station can detect fires or intense heat.

If you don’t have a landline or 300 feet isn’t going to cut it, ADT offers a step up called the ‘Medical Alert Plus.’ The plus model runs off of AT&T’s cellular network so you don’t need a landline to make it work. In addition, the plus system doubles the range coming in at 600 feet so if you’re a big gardener or have a sizable house you don’t need to worry about being out of range. With the Medical Alert Plus, you can also choose to upgrade to a fall detection pendant that will automatically call out if it detects a sudden drop. The basic and plus models are both capable of automatically checking themselves for problems. If ADT does detect an issue they’ll give you a call and help you troubleshoot the issue.

Both of the options above are intended for home use only, if you stray out of the range then you’re out of luck. If you live a more active lifestyle ADT offers their last product, the ‘On-The-Go Emergency Response System.’ You still get the choice of pendant, wristband or fall detection pendant but this package replaces the base station with a portable device instead.

If you’re out golfing and have an accident you can reach ADT through two-way voice communication in the mobile unit. There’s a GPS built in as well so you don’t even need to know where you are, ADT can summon the help you need! The only downside is the ‘On-The-Go System’ doesn’t have the built-in temperature monitoring the other two options come equipped with so if you’re concerned about extra fire safety you might want to stick with another package.

If you do decide to go with ADT, take a look at the website first before making your purchase. They often run website only specials and discounts! Be sure to inquire about ‘FOREVERate’ as well – ADT pledges that your rate will remain the same except taxes or changes to your plan such as upgrading to a different system. The only downside to a locked rate is ADT doesn’t offer any prepayment discounts. Many companies will offer a discount if you allow them to bill you quarterly or yearly but ADT’s prices remain the same.

ADT was founded all the way back in 1874 and although they didn’t get into the security business until the early 1900’s that’s still way more experience responding to emergencies than most other competitors can even dream of! ADT is rightly proud of their ‘Customer Monitoring Centers’ that they’ve been fine tuning longer than many companies have been around.

The ‘Health Emergency Response Monitoring Centers’ are open 24/7 including all major holidays and ADT points out that all of their professionals receive specific ‘Senior-Sensitive’ training. The centers are also US-based and as you would expect from a home security company, the centers are all company owned & operated as well.

Another advantage of signing up with ADT is their existing portfolio of security systems. If you’re in the market for a medical alert system and a burglar alarm you can get both with the same company for one combined bill. In addition to the medical alert branch, ADT also offers Video Surveillance, burglary monitoring, fire & smoke monitoring, carbon monoxide alarms and more. All of these can be monitored within a smartphone app to boot, including the video surveillance so you can keep an eye on your home from the other side of the world.
