MobileHelp helps on-the-go seniors stay active

10-second breakdown:

MobileHelp commands a large portion of the medical alert industry with their cellular-based and low-key flexible technology. Their products encourage seniors to keep healthy active lifestyles.

The good:

The best “on the go” option with smooth-looking tech and a pendant that includes a built-in microphone.

GPS Mobile Tracking available which allows for emergency coverage wherever you go. Another option that’s great for active seniors.

When you fall, this alert system will notify your service for you. A handy feature if you are injured and can’t reach a button.

The elderly with an active lifestyle will want to take notice.

The bad:

Very few upgrades are available and there are no premium options such as fire and carbon monoxide detection.

Mobile equipment is a bit bigger and could be considered uncomfortable/embarassing.

How it works:

While it may be a little cluttered at times, there is a lot of great information available on MobileHelp’s website. You don’t even need to find the reading glasses, MobileHelp has text size increase and decrease buttons right at the top of the website.

If getting ahold of people the old-fashioned way, through a phone call, is more up your alley they also have a US-based center where you can get more information or order your alert system.

MobileHelp has quite a few package options available and deciphering which one you want may take a little time. All of the packages filter down to two base options, ‘MobileHelp’, named after the company, and ‘MobileVitals.’ Every package, with one exception noted below, come with the usual base station. Their station has an Emergency, Reset and Test button along with a small digital LCD screen that displays the date, time, indoor temperature, battery level and signal strength of the station. All of the packages are cellular enabled on AT&T’s network, you won’t find any landline options here.

The ‘MobileHelp’ packages are the bread and butter of the company, which are their standard medical alert offerings. ‘MobileHelp Classic’ is their lowest cost option and includes the base station as well as two waterproof emergency buttons. These buttons aren’t two-way so you can’t speak to an operator through them, but on the plus side, you can choose if you want two pendants, two watch-like wrist buttons or one of each.

‘MobileHelp Solo’ is the only package offered that doesn’t include the base station. It’s intended for single seniors and includes two emergency buttons with your choice of watch or pendant similar to the classic but this one replaces the base with a ‘Mobile Device.’ The Mobile Device has two-way communication and can go with you wherever you go.

By far the most comprehensive, ‘MobileHelp Duo’ comes with the mobile device, a carrying pouch, a Base Station, two help buttons and a charging cradle for the mobile device. It’s intended for an active couple that still want to go to town together. Each of the partners can take one of the waterproof buttons and only one of them needs to take the mobile device, perhaps in a pocketbook or hooked onto a belt with the pouch.

The other branch of MobileHelp’s products is their ‘MobileVitals’ line. Like their name suggests, this selection also helps you check your vital health information. ‘MobileVitals Classic’ is pretty similar to ‘MobileHelp Classic’ in that it offers the same base station and two waterproof help buttons. This package also includes a Bluetooth-ready base upgrade and the senior’s choice of a blood pressure monitor, digital weight scale, pulse oximeter or coming soon a glucose monitor. All of the measurements are sent wirelessly back to the base station!

Last but not least the ‘MobileVitals Duo’ package includes everything in the classic package but also includes the mobile device with the two-way direct communication with MobileHelp that we discussed above. You can go shopping in town with the portable security of the mobile device and then take your blood pressure when you get home with one of the optional Bluetooth devices!

Depending on the package you choose you can also opt to upgrade to a ‘MobileHelp Fall Button’ that detects when you’ve fallen. It’s meant for seniors who may not be able to press the button due to medical conditions and the fall button is completely waterproof so MobileHelp recommends you even wear it in the shower.

Every package listed above includes ‘MobileHelp Connect’ – an online suite of tools you can use to monitor your loved ones even when you’re on the other side of the world. All packages can use MobileHelp Connect to view any recent alerts, emergency or otherwise, and schedule medication reminders to be played through the base station. If you opted for the fall button you can also view daily, weekly, monthly or yearly activity tracking charts and if your package included one of the mobile devices with GPS, the online program can show you the senior’s current location on a map.

MobileHelp offers a discount and insurance plan for their devices called ‘MobileHelp Connect Premium.’ Normally if a device gets lost or stolen you have to pay for it in full but with Connect Premium all you are responsible for is the deductible.

MobileHelp’s main focus is all about supporting on-the-go seniors and doing their best to provide them security without overly intrusive hardware. No one likes to be told they can’t go out to socialize or be active and MobileHelp gets the point loud and clear.

MobileHelp doesn’t require a landline like most other companies in the industry. Combine that with their standard ‘MobileHelp Connect’ online suite and you have a company that firmly believes in incorporating technology to help loved ones keep their valuable peace of mind.
