10-second breakdown:
Medical Guardian is the fastest growing company in the industry and offer customers several different at home solutions that are incredibly easy to setup.
The good:
Medical Guardian is incredibly considerate of their customers and doesn’t hesitate to go the extra mile. Setup is simple and customer service can be reached in several different ways.
No setup fees, no contracts, and no activation fees. Plus there is a money-back guarantee if you don’t like the service.
All operators are considerate as well as EMT trained to handle emergencies.
Up to a 1,300 foot range for base stations, the best in the business.
The bad:
There aren’t as many upgrades available as some competitors.
Emergency calls aren’t managed in-house. All button activations and alerts are handled by a third party call center (as qualified as they may be).
How it works:
Getting set up with Medical Guardian couldn’t be easier. They can be reached via their website, phone or live chat. Their website is packed with information mostly in the form of videos that explain who they are, what they do and even buying advice.
Dealing with Medical Guardian couldn’t be easier either, they have no long-term contracts, no activation fees and even a money back guarantee – if you cancel the service they will give you back your money for any prepaid months you didn’t use.
Ordering is a smooth process as well – you can check out online or by giving them a call.
Medical Guardian offers four main medical alert solutions and at first glance all of them look similar. All four come with an emergency help button you carry with you and a base station that you can use to directly communicate with the monitoring station. There are some differences though and the devil is in the details.
The most budget-friendly solution available is the ‘Classic Guardian.’ It protects you from falls, medical emergencies, break-ins and fires. The system comes with a 32-hour backup battery so even if the power is out you can still reach out for help. The neat part about the Classic Guardian is that multiple people can connect to the base station so both partners can keep protected. The Classic Guardian plugs into a landline to operate so if you’ve cut the cord and only use a cell phone this one won’t be the best choice.
Medical Guardian’s next step up is the ‘Home Guardian.’ It works in a similar fashion to the Classic Guardian in that it has a large base station and has portable emergency buttons you can carry around but it works through a nationwide cellular service so it doesn’t require a landline. Like it’s brother, the Home Guardian also has a backup battery but the tradeoff for working on cellular is the range isn’t quite as good. It’ll still cover your house but if you spend a lot of time at the neighbor’s house playing bridge you might want to double check if this solution can receive a signal that far away.
For more mobile seniors, Medical Guardian offers the ‘Mobile Guardian.’ This one is a little different than the first two in that the home base station is much smaller and the package comes with a mobile base station that’s equipped with a GPS. If you like to go out for yoga classes or have a daily walk down in the park and something happens you can still reach out to Medical Guardian. The range is much shorter on this one but if you use it as recommended and carry both the emergency button and mobile base station on your person that shouldn’t be an issue! Remember to keep it charged though the estimated life, which on the Mobile Guardian is 24 hours.
Last but certainly not least is the most expensive option, the ‘Premium Guardian.’ This one is more similar to the Mobile Guardian in that it’s meant for highly active seniors. It combines the base station with the emergency button leaving one small GPS-enabled pendant that you can use anywhere there is cell coverage. The Premium Guardian also ups the battery life to 36 hours, so you can go a full day and a half before you absolutely need to plug it in to charge up.
So what makes Medical Guardian different? Medical alert companies are a dime a dozen but what makes Medical Guardian stand out is their certified and knowledgeable staff. The senior monitoring center is open 24/7 and has received quite a few accommodations including the CSAA 5 Diamond Certification, a UL certification and the Department of Defense certification.
The staff keeping tabs on your loved one are Philadelphia-based, 911 – EMT trained operators that can assess the situation and can dispatch different people depending on the need. Took a bad fall and need immediate assistance? Police, fire and paramedics are on the way. Not an emergency situation? No problem, give them a ring anyway and they can alert neighbors and family members.
While Medical Guardian puts a focus on their customer service they are no slouch when it comes to the technology either. The monitoring center has state of the art data servers and telecommunication equipment while maintaining power redundancy – the ability to power themselves in the case of an emergency.
Out on the field, several of their products have an astounding range. The industry average is 300-600 feet but a the Classic Guardian we discussed earlier tops out at 1,300 feet! The height of the Eiffel Tower is only a paltry 984 feet.
Medical Guardian makes a name for itself with their certified staff and high-range products. Not convinced they’re the right medical alert company for you? Don’t rush into a decision.
