Bay Alarm Medical offers one of the lowest cost options in the alert industry

10-second breakdown:

Bay Alarm has worked hard to lower expenses to pass those savings to consumers. A reliable, basic, low-cost monitoring service.

The good:

We’ve already mentioned the affordability of this alert system, but the great prices come with a great service and top of the line customer satisfaction. You’ll also

Decent range for the basic setup at 1,000 feet and the equipment is small and doesn’t stick out. Testing the range is still recommended in larger and two-story houses.

No contracts or cancellation fees.

The bad:

The call center isn’t ran by Bay Alarm Medical. However, the reps are known to be some of the most caring in the industry.

The customer has to install the equipment as well as pay shipping to get it to the home.

How it works:

Bay Alarm Medical’s website is very user-friendly with its clean design and simple to navigate layout. They provide a lot of information about who they are, what services they offer and even run a blog focused around what they call ‘positive-aging’ or living happier and longer.

The website also houses an extensive video section that includes everything from how to use their products to charity walks they’ve participated in, to rather touching mother’s day videos about what your mom means to you.

The process for getting started with Bay Alarm Medical couldn’t be simpler, you can look through their packages online and make a purchase right from their website or call them up on a toll-free number. They offer discounts for members of AARP, AMAC and USAA but you need to call in to get your reduced rate.

There are two main medical alert devices Bay Alarm Medical offers with a few different add-ons if you have special needs.

The first option is the slightly cheaper of the two, the ‘In-Home Medical Alert System.’ The name says it all, the package includes a base station with a single red ‘Help’ button on it that can be used to directly communicate with an operator and a small, portable, light-weight help button you can wear around your neck or wrist. This option does require a landline though so if you moved onto a cell phone this won’t be a good fit!

Their second option is the ‘In-Home Cellular Alert System.’ You’d be forgiven for thinking the cellular and medical alert systems are the same thing. Visually they are nearly identical but the cellular alert system has a gray button instead of red and has an antenna sticking out of the side. It still performs the same functions, you chat with a care consultant through the home base and you get a stylish button to wear on your person, but now it’s powered by the AT&T cellular network rather than your landline.

In addition to the two medical alert solutions, Bay Alarm Medical offers an upgraded ‘Automatic Fall Detection’ emergency button you can use. They explain that it won’t always be necessary but there are times in which a senior may not be capable of hitting the help button, perhaps due to medical conditions like dementia or suffering from a stroke. While no technology is 100% perfect, they developed the button to cut down on false readings and detect actual falls as much as possible.

If the senior in your life is still active and loves to go golfing, Bay Alarm Medical also offers a ‘Mobile GPS Help Button.’ Originally powered by T-Mobile, the system now uses the larger AT&T cellular network and allows you to get help anywhere there’s coverage. The button also acts as a GPS so even if you’re unable to speak to the operator they can still direct emergency services to your location.

Speaking of the operators or ‘Care Consultants’ as Bay Alarm Medical calls them, they are based out of 3 different call stations. They provide customer service, technical support and consultations out of their headquarters in California and keep their business operations completely separate from medical monitoring.

The two locations you would reach if you needed medical assistance are in Ogden, Utah and Rexburg, Idaho. The two locations are completely redundant and full duplicates (That’s a good thing). What this means is they both can stay in power if a storm were to roll in but even if one of them got knocked out the other one can still perform all of the functions it needs to and has access to all customer information. Both centers are open 24/7, are CSAA Five Diamond Certified and go through random inspections by UL.

Bay Alarm Medical goes out of its way to take care of the seniors they protect and that is their special sauce – what separates them from the rest of the pack.

Yes, many companies make similar claims and put positive reviews front and center for marketing purposes but this is something different. The love shows, Bay Alarm Medical has an astounding 4.5/5 stars from over 300 user reviews at Consumer Affairs, one of the best in the industry.

Not only that, they offer a sizable scholarship contest every year to aspiring college students. The prospects need to write an essay about any life lessons they have learned from volunteering around senior citizens.

Bay Alarm Medical may be a bit too large to be considered a ‘mom and pop’ but they really do treat their clients like family and that can make a world of a difference in an emergency.
