They also have a great support team, very helpful and responsive.
The bad:
It doesn’t always load all websites and it can make you miss your Excel spreadsheet if you’re working with huge numbers.
Sometimes there are loading time issues, but nothing serious. Also, it’s an advanced tool so it might take a while to get the hang of it.
How it works:
Well, as with every new tool, choose your plan and create an account. You are presented with three choices: starter ($29/mo), plus )$99/mo) and premium ($249/mo), each with a proportional number of users, contacts and link prospecting searches.
To get started with BuzzStream, I recommend getting familiar with its Chrome extension – BuzzMarker– you’re going to be using it a lot. Whenever you’re browsing the web and come across a new website or influencer to add to your account, you can simply hit the extension icon in your Chrome toolbar and BuzzMarker will open up on the right side of your page.
BuzzMarker will help you create a new contact record, automatically filling in essential information about that person such as email, social media accounts and website. You can double check if that everything looks correct, then add any descriptions or tags that will help your organize your database and find this site later and the project for which the database is created. In case you’ve stumbled upon an already existent contact, BuzzStream will tell you and you can edit it or move on.
If you already have a bloggers database, you can easily import it.
The app will automatically look for contact details to fill in. It will also collect SEO and authority metrics, such as page rank, twitter followers, inbound links, MozRank, domain authority and even RSS feeds. You can sort these contacts by a number of filters, such as:
- Tags
- Which team member that contact is assigned to
- Website type
- Link type
- Relationship stage
- Contact history
- Email template used for outreach
- Location
- Scoring and metrics – domain authority or rating
For more advanced reporting, click on the website you’re interested in and you’ll get an in-depth analysis.
Let’s see how you can connect with these prospects. Well, that’s relatively easy. If you’re already on your prospect’s website, you can use the BuzzMarker to send them email. Just hit the mail icon to the upper left of the contact photo to open the compose window. You can draft an email from scratch or select one of your templates. If you choose a template, you can customize it before sending.
To view previous interactions with that contact, use the BuzzMarker history tab. The tool will register all actions made with regards to that prospect, so that you and other team members know where you are at any point.
This outreach feature is perhaps the most valuable one – digital PR is not easy and content distribution can be a real hassle for marketers. Having a tool to organize your database and connect with influencers is essential for content marketing.
To create a new email template, start by clicking on the ‘outreach’ button in the main navigation. You can have several templates ready-to-go, saving you a lot of time.

Templates can be shared with your coworkers, if you want to. You can also choose whether to show this template in all of your projects, or just in that specific project.
BuzzStream provides you with dynamic merge fields, which add information from your account and contact records to outreach emails. You can (and should) personalize your message before you send it, even though you’re using a template.
You can also opt to send the email at a later time.
BuzzStream partners with Moz analytics to help you find more prospects. For example, once you have an influencer list generated by Followerwonk, you can right click and choose “highlight contacts in BuzzStream.” BuzzStream will highlight the contacts that are already in your account and show whether or not they’re in the current project. Dark green means they’re in your account and in the current project. Light green means they’re in your account but in a different project.
To discover trending content, you can also use BuzzStream together with BuzzSumo. You can use your content results to create a new prospecting list. BuzzStream will open the prospecting list in the BuzzMarker for Chrome so that you can filter the results (not all of them might be relevant).
